Network Taps and Aggregators

Test Access Ports or Taps create access ports for monitoring by splitting or regenerating the network signal which allows IT personnel to easily monitor a network link. Typically taps are placed between network devices such as switches, routers, or firewalls, in order to provide network and security administrators a permanent access point for monitoring devices. A large benefit of taps is the elimination of downtime to run cabling directly to the monitoring device from the network devices, this eliminates possible cabling issues as well as saves IT personnel time. The monitoring device which is connected to the Tap receives traffic as if it were in line, including all errors.

Network access control is a unifying approach to endpoint security technology which authenticates and enforces network security components such as antivirus, host intrusion prevention, and vulnerability assessment.

As a device connects to a network, it is checked by pre-installed software with access only to resources that can resolve or update issues. The device is not permitted access until it complies with pre-determined standards and pre-defined policies. The standards and policies being checked include anti-virus, protection level, system update level, and configuration. Once the device meets the defined standards it is granted access to the network.

Malware - Detection and Prevention

Anti-malware software's purpose is to prevent, detect, and remove malicious software (malware). Malware can include computer viruses, worms, adware, spyware, stealware, and trojan horses.

Viruses and worms usually self replicate and cause a variety of problems for users and computers.

Adware is a type of malware which displays advertisements, even without the consent of the user. Not all adware is spyware. Some companies utilize was could be termed adware but is used to mislead, spy on, or provide harm to the user or the computer.

Spyware is installed on a computer without the knowledge of the computer user and stealthily collects user information without the computer users' knowledge, and can be difficult to detect. These programs collect more than personal information they also can collect surfing habits, program usage and can take control of your computer by installing software, changing computer settings, redirect web browsers and hinder functionality of programs. Spyware typically doesn't self-replicate like viruses and worms do.

Stealware is a type of malware that diverts the payment of a legitimate affiliate to the spyware creator.
Trojan horses is a term taken from Greek history that is a type of malware that gives access to a user's computer while appearing to help the user. Trojan horses (Trojan) are non-self-replicating.

To get the most effect from their products virus designers test their new viruses against the major anti-virus applications before releasing them. In an effort to combat this anti-virus and anti-spyware programs must be continuously monitored and updated. However users must be aware that virus designers are now creating "anti-virus" programs that are really malware in disguise.

Encryption

The main purposes of encryption software are encryption and decryption of data. Data that has been encrypted must have a key to be accessed. Encryption software typically covers data sent or received via email, files on hard drives or removable media, and as data sent over computer networks.

Data Security - ILP/DLP

Data Loss Prevention (DLP) refers to the systems that detect, monitor and protect confidential information. These systems use multiple techniques to detect confidential and sensitive information, to determine what to look for, and for deep content analysis. The two most common types of DLP systems are network and host-based.
